Our "Barking Rats"

and other pets too

Chihuahuas are wonderful, loving little dogs. However, they don't know that they are little. I say that if a Chihuahua were as large as a Rotwieller, nothing could beat them in a fight. We raised Chihuahuas for several years and know their capabilities. The first two, shown below, actually had a Vietnamese Potbellied pig cornered one Sunday when we got back home from church. On another occasion, they ran off three large dogs  from our yard. As you might have guessed, we lived in the country then and we owned five acres that they could roam around on if they got out. We tried to keep them confined to about one-forth acre but they kept finding ways out. That is how we lost ChaChi. He got out while we were away and got hit by a car even though we lived at the end of a dirt road. We never did find out who did it but we have our suspicions.

Contrary to popular belief, Chihuahuas are not necessarily the nervous yappy dogs that they are made out to be. Of seven adults and around 50 or so babies, we only had one that was yappy and none that were nervous. The one that was yappy is one we got after she was about a year old. I am convinced that it is all in the way that they are raised. I believe that not all Rotwiillers are bad either. I have seen very loving Rotwiellers and very mean spirited Chihuahuas. I believe that any animal given love and care will grow into a secure loving animal.

They are mischievous and anyone who owns a Chihuahua knows that they are notorious for being "pack rats".Our female has the habit of taking treats, toys, as well as other things and hiding them under the pillow in her bed. Because of these habits, many people say they're rodents rather than real dogs. Therefore, the term "Barking Rat" is a very descriptive term for the Chihuahua

I made myself a snowball

As perfect as could be.

I thought I'd keep it as a pet

And let it sleep with me.

I made it some pajamas.

And a pillow for its head,

then last night it ran away,

But first--It wet the bed.
